the choke is cable operated and inside the carb there is a plunger with a spring holding it down when the knob is pushed in, I noticed that mine with vibration would open or bounce up so I removed the cable and put a heavy spring in.
I will check into this. Thanks for the info.

thanks charlie for the write up. after you answered several of my questions, this write up is great!

i 2nd the idea that there should be a link to this in the common Q&As and should become a sticky. its an important part of bike that is going to need adjustments sooner or later.

I will check into this. Thanks for the info.
Hey Mondo
I went to the local ACE with the the choke assembly removed from the bike, even the plunger from the carb. then I just found the spring that fit and gave it more resistance to opening.

Many new 1300 owners since I posted this

Doing a bump for some of the new owners

I do have a few things that I have changed since I did this write up but for the most part it all still applies.

Thanks for the bump, Charlie. I never saw this one before...

BTW, Charlie don't need no sticky threads, he just needs an whole section. :)

Thank you very much, carb tuning has always been one of those skills that takes alot of experience and know how, it has also been one of those things that not many know how to do properly. Thanks again for explaining something that has always been a mystical thing that I dont know much about.

 Thanks for sharing all this info which I can't hardly wait to get into. Need a set of pipes first. OJT always sticks with u. Thanks again Charlie.

I have it bookmarked and post a link when guys come asking. In general there is no I have these pipes and this filter jet combo. To do it right you have to go in multiple times and do trial and error. I still play with mine but then again I love tuning. I used to tune Carter 4 barrels only there you changed metering rods (needles) and jets to find the magic combo and on those one always effected the other.

Charlie, wish you were here to help

I'm replying to help find it again. But really if you could make house calls it would be great. I'm stuck around 38 mpg, great exceleration but the mileage sucks. So the search is on for the fix is on.

Thank you Charlie. My bike is running well but after reading this I ordered the FP kit and Glens Perm A/F screw. So I am going to retune. She seem a little flat in the midrange and dose have a small surge at cruse. I am starting with 210 main 58 pilot 1 3/4 A/F clip on 3. It is time for my 2yr service so I have to take the bike apart anyway.
