Fuel light and turn signal question...

I own a motorcycle of the vtx1300 R variety and am curious about a couple of things.

First, I was told that a low fuel indicator light will come on when the juice is getting low. I have run out of gas and as some of you probably are aware, just because the bike has less fuel in it doesn't make it easier to push. I pushed for rough a block and a half before I remembered the reserve switch. However, I never saw any kind of indicator vying for my attention.

No turn signal cancellation? C'mon. I had an '85 Yamaha that leapt that technological barrier. Makes me wonder what people behind me must be thinking. (C'mon grandpa! Turn already!)

I read about the beep warning mod someone created, and that may be an option. Now where did I leave my teeth? Ah, there they are. You kids get off my grass!!

There is a low fuel indicator ... Most of us reset out Trip A on the Odo when we fill up. Then just run it down to the "Reserve" and then you know where you are. The turn signal cancellation is attached to your left hand. I know, this takes a little extra work, pushing two buttons. You get used to it.

Yeah, I figured out the two button method myself. Just curious why they would neglect a much used option.
Haha! Michigan noobs! Good one. I consider myself part of that group. Thanks for the comments.

+1 I had a '79 yamaha with a turn signal cancellation. What can you do. Consider it a long term warning for your next turn. As far as gas...........Your on your own there. Odometer and reserve tank are my best friends

I am frustrated with the turn signals as well, i feel these bikes should have turn signal cancellation also. Like others said, the more you ride you will get an idea of how many miles you get per tank. That helps you from running out again!

You guys just sit around and think of stuff to bitch about???....It's a motorcycle, not a Lexus...I had a '76 Goldwing with a fuel gauge, and it wasn't very accurate at all, pretty much useless.......It's real easy to just reset the trip meter at fillup and keep an eye on the mileage from time to time...Even better is to just ride until it sputters, then switch to reserve...I then know I have about 40 miles to find a gas station...

Also I know this might be hard to get used to, but develop the habit of cancelling the turn signals manually after every turn...

Fuel guages/warning lights, and self cancelling signals are for cars, not motorcycles...

Didn't I just see a thread about you adding Glens turn signal beeper :stirpot:
LOL. I'm thinking about adding a couple small LED's to the brackets my faring, just so it catches my eye. Almost got taken out by a lady who thought I was turning left.
Ride on and hope to see ya on the 12th

As far as any kind of low fuel light, yes all the 1300's are the same, they dont have one. Personally, I fill up @ either 120-130 miles out of habit, I've only switched to reserve twice since I bought my bike, I REALLY hate to push it anywhere. The low fuel warning light is nice, but I trust my res to get me to a gas station, as opposed to a switch malfunctioning and leaving me stranded without warning.

ok if your bike has fuel injection it has a low fuel warning light, run injectors dry and you might need two batteries to get her running right. the turn signal well I have a friend that ran for an hour with his flashing a left turn only to turn it off when he made a right....:choppersm

LED Turn Signal Indicator Mod

I installed 2.5" green, flexible, waterproof LED strips (from oznium.com) on the inside of my shield along the inside of the chrome brace strip), and wired them to my turn signals for higher visibility and better safety overall. (I tapped into the turn signal wires inside the housing behind the headlamp). These LED's keep me from inadvertently leaving a turn signal on (very dangerous). These work great! Had them on for a couple of years now. Green is the brightest (besides white). At night, they are very bright to the point of almost being irritating, but I can deal with it considering the safety aspect. During the day, they are very visible and can be seen in the peripheral vision while looking straight ahead! I plan on making a youtube vid soon explaining the mod.

Although I have fuel guage now, I still use the trip meter as my guide. That's what I got used to with the VTX and I'm more comfortable with that method than a marginally accurate fuel guage. It is handy just to glance at though.

And the turn signal cancelation...I do love that feature. And the fairing, and the radio, and the fuel injection, and............

Fine...I'll go now...

That is a nice Street Glide! I once had a Fat Boy and I loved the turn signal system. I just can't understand why Honda couldn't incorporate that type of system into their bikes. I Probably would have kept the Fat Boy if it had anywhere near the torque and power of the VTX 1800. I just gotta have that power!
