I run Amsoil and wix filter. I change every 5k miles.

Make sure you download the VTX 1300 service manual and review the maintenance intervals, and instructions for required maintenance.

 

Non energy conserving oil only or you'll be replacing your clutch.

 

I've been using the valvoline 4t synthetic oil with a k&n filter. Change my oil every 5,000 miles. I normally just pick my oil up at Walmart. They have it in the section with all the motorcycle stuff.

 

I use honda oil and filter, but the shop manual states to us oil without moly in it.

 

The shop manual isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Follow the knowledge on this forum and do what they say.

 

Had my best over-all results using Amsoil for motorcycles -- better shifting and smoother clutch. Use a Purolator filter: PL (or PSL) 14610. Started reusing the drain plug aluminum gaskets too, after rubbing smooth on a little emory cloth.

 

Just dont forget that the Tranny and clutch assembly runs on the engine oil also..

I quality M C oil aftermarket filter is fine....
I went synthetic Castrol 'V Twin', in the 20/50 as I live in a hotter climate and am a fair weather rider for the most part...

But you will get a Great answer, and great oil etc, from every one that responds.......

Rotella T6 Synthetic and K&N filter does the job. Change gets done in the Fall if I can, first thing in the Spring if I can't

 

Much the same here. Only I don't spend as much on the filter.
