Plexus vs Pledge

For the past few years I have been using Plexus to clean my shield off. I bought a big can of it about 3 years ago and still had tons of it left. Well, or so I thought. With the new season starting I went to clean off the bike and the shield, but I can no longer find my PLexus can.

I had gone to Iron Pony to buy some more of it but it was $25. I didnt really want to spend that much. The salesman there told me to use PLedge.

Everytime I clean my bike, I use Pledge but never on my shield. Beyond good ole soap and water, is Pledge a good thing to use on the shield?

From what I've been told, good old soap and water is best for shields because it doesn't degrade the coating on them. I do use pledge multi surface on every other part of the bike though.

I have used the Honda brand spray cleaner/wax in the black can with white/pink label. It works great on paint, plastic, chrome, mirror glass and both my MS shield on my 750 and batwing shield on the X.

I have used it on the 750 shield for 4yrs now and when i clean it with that the shield looks like a new one even after 4 yrs.

A can costs around $5 or so but i also use it on my car and truck including the windows and mirrors on them too. It costs me about $10 a year to do 2 bikes, a dodge ram 1500 and 08 charger.

I love this stuff.

IIRC The Original bike polish I linked to is the same stuff as the Honda polish before they reformulated it, and the big cans cost about what the little cans of the Honda polish do :D

I've used the multi-surface pledge on my windshield and have never had any problems. Cleans easily, no marks or scratches and best of all, after a few times, even the dried bugs come off easier :D

I used Plexus for years before I tried Pledge. The Pledge started turning the shield yellow and it was too shiny. Too much reflection and glare. Went back to Plexus. 6 years and the shield's finish is like new, except for the chips. $25 a can is pricey, but it lasts a long, long time and preserves the shield. Nothing else for me.

I've used Lemon Pledge on my shield for 3 years now. No degrading the surface, the next time you use it the bugs come off easier, it's cheap and you can find it anywhere. I see no reason to use Plexus, Honda cleaner or any expensive "bike" product. I also use it on all the painted and chrome surfaces except the pipes. I use chrome cleaner on them.

HTH

National Cycle says nothing with ANY solvent should be used on their shields, as it has a hard coat they call "Quantum", which is supposedly harder than the FMR Lexan, but which will come off with solvent cleaners like alcohol or ammonia based cleaners. So until I hear otherwise, soap and water.....

I get MULTI-Surface Pledge (in the skinny blue can) to clean using the "dirty" micro-fibre cloth I last used to polish. Then I use MULTI-Surface Pledge to polish...

:hmm2:...well...technically I merely use a CLEAN micro-fibre cloth to polish.

But that would have been too short a post for such an important subject. :coffee:

Oh yeah...I NEVER EVER use "Lemon" anything. :nono:

It attracts wasps/bee/yellow jackets to whom I am allergic.

I use the MULTI-Surface Pledge (in the skinny blue can) on everything but my Mustang seat (tried it once and almost castrated myself sliding up the tank at a sudden stop light). :icon_susp

That, of course, also includes the windshield. :icon_eek:

This subject appears to rotate through roughly about every 3 months. The vast majority of Cafe patrons who bother to respond use and perform as described above with excellent results for extended periods of time (to include years). The few who don't either must have a LOT more money to spend ($7 a can...that's ridiculous) than the $3.28 it costs me at WalMart or they do not know how to use a micro-fibre cloth...well...technically TWO cloths...see above.

So you can definitely use MULTI-Surface Pledge (in the skinny blue can) on everything should you choose.

hey vtxbikerman

so you're saying even on the windshield and pipes? i've been using the Honda can, which goes on everything, no need to clean before either, for some time, but just ran out?

i have another question, since this is a multipurpose, will any or every other multisurface cleaner??? isn't Pledge just the brand? i ask this since i have 2 other types already at home, and things are tight!

I use the Lemon Pledge on my entire bike. Yes, chrome and windshield included. It's what we have here at work and I'd rather get paid to clean my X than do it on my time at home.
