I have a 2002 VTX 1800 C . Can I remove the TP sensor and clean it ? If so how ?

If you have access to an ociloscope you should do a sweep test, the signal should be a clean sweep with no open or short glitches (think srcatchy volume knob on your stereo) .as far as removing it I beleave that it only comes with the throtle body and may not easly be removed. if you do and or can and still want to try to clean it ,you should only use an electronics cleaner made for potensiometers . Good luck.

Disconnect connector and check TPS with an ohmmeter, 0-6 ohms throttle closed to full open (advances ignition by ICM). Beg your pardon, I just noticed you are dealing with 1800 and I am speaking of 1300. I don't honestly know if the two TPSs work the same or not. :patriot:

Members of the Cafe don't get paid to help others out with technical problems. We do so out of a sense of comraderie, friendship, and shared love of the VTX bike platform. Yelling at people and being impolite is most likely to result in fewer people being willing to help with your questions now and in the future.

G'day,

Just trying to get a better picture and it looks like you got some pretty good responses. Best as I can remember the TPS can be disconnected but not entirely removed without a lot of fuss. You might try spraying a little electrical cleaner there and see if that helps. If not, it may need replacing. However those symptoms describe a lot of issues. Anything from loose bat cables or a weak battery to bad vacuum lines. Eliminate those issues too. Have you done the ground fix?

It was obvious to whom your comment was directed. That still doesn't make your comment the best approach to take.

Then perhaps you have PM'ed him. When you post for all to read then you post for all to respond. Good luck at the fix anyway.

No worries. Forgive and forget. Did you get your question answered?
