i have a 2007 1300vtxc with 90 miles ( ive owned it for a week now) , after riding i have the smell of exhaust on me. this did not happen with my suzuki m50. is this a sign of bad air/fuel mix? i am used to everything having fuel injection now ive forgotten about the carb stuff ( planning on doing the scar mod soon.) any help is appreciated. even if the answer is " thats a honda".

Go faster and out run them fumes LOL

you might be running a hair rich or it could be do to the winter blend of fuel.

are you lugging the motor you need to keep the revs up a little or it will load up some.

as far as the scar mod you would only need to do that if you change pipes and intake.

well i guess its just me

sunday me and the wife ( she on the m50) rode out of town for 45 minutes (at 60 mph) to my bothers, after we got there she said i stunk. i could smell it also. im not lugging the engine. i actually like a higher idle than my neighbors hd (when it runs). i was wondering if it might be the air/fuel mix as i havent smelled that odor since i had an old car from the sixties.

oh yeah

my suzuki m50 is fuel injected, and it does not have that odor. that is one reason i suspect a/f mix on the 1300vtx

you can pull the plugs and check the color white is lean darker than a coffee color is rich.

if they are dark then you could turn the A/F about 1/4 turn then run and check again.

The Air fuel screw is on the bottom of the carb behind the float bowl and takes a special "D" socket type tool to adjust, you may be able to get your dealer to adjust a bit for you.

With a carb you are going to get some smell as it is very hard to regulate the fuel like an injection system does.

thanks charlie d, i thought id see if any one had the same complaint, or if i just get used to it. i will check with the dealer also, seem like nice folk..
oh, aslo, on our ride sunday, we passed lotsa "bikers" none of em even nodded at us. guess the sun was in thier eyes.

Give them time, I have the HD riders that shine me on and then others come up after a ride and want to know what i am on, they then say do they make that for a HD.

Others will stop at a light and say great looking and give the thumbs up

So long as the smell is AFTER you ride, you're OK!

I've noticed some residual smell too, but not very dramatic.

If you want to be pals with HD (and all other riders), check out the Patriot Guard Riders: nicest bunch of riders you'll find anywhere!

Just a thought wonder how much this has to do with the traffic in front of you and the shielding you have versus your actual bike?

When I ride I often smell like "road" but have always wrote it off to 1) long ride behind cars/trucks with or without a windshield or 2) short rides without a windshield at all.

Just a thought.
