Luggage rack on 1300c w/out sissy bar?

I've been looking at sissy bars and luggage racks, as well as cheap univeral fitting luggage trunks. I really need a luggage rack to prepare for my long trips. I need lockable hard cases for my bike, both saddle bags and trunk. When traveling alone on long trips I need all the help I can keeping people out of a tourists tour packs. I will most likely modify the locks that come on these cases and add dead bolts with reinforcement plates, as well as an extra lining of fiberglass to the inside for rigidity and security. The idea is to keep my gear stowed away in locked, hard, reinforced cases. Not stowed on top of my seats and racks where any idiot with a knife is welcome to it!

My question is: What luggage racks will mount without a sissy bar? I need a way to secure these cheap ABS plastic trunks off ebay to my bike. They say "will attach to a luggage rack on your bike, or any flat surface". I was considering the trunks with pads built in. Do these universal trunks normally fit with sissy bars? I'm kind of confused, haven't been around many bikes and need some suggestions on this matter. I mean obviously the trunks with built in pads wouldn't be used with a sissy bar too! However, is this possible on the 1300C? So confused need some ideas here.

My goal is to secure all my camping gear and helmet inside my packs with my road side assistance kit and tools, etc etc. I have a lot of very small and light camping gear from my backpacking days so don't worry about if it will fit or not, I've got that figured out (boyscout here). If I can get by on next to nothing in the woods for 2 weeks straight I think I can handle civilization out of a bike. I really just need some ideas on how all this mounting hardware works (or doesn't) and if the ABS bags/trunks on ebay are worth a damn. Thanks for any input on this matter.

These types of trunks and bags are the ones in question. http://stores.ebay.com/Deals4Hobbies...QQftidZ2QQtZkm

I saw the paladin luggage rack and sissy bar can be used independently via the mounting brackets. Are most sissy bars like this or do most luggage racks require a sissy bar to mount a luggage rack?

Just for the record, these are for traveling. Not for style. We all know a bike w/out bags is the sexiest beast.

If you go with Hondaline, you can just get the luggage rack and mounting brackets...It works that way, or with the backrest alone, or with both...I have the Hondaline standard tall backrest now, and I'm planning on getting a luggage rack, and eventually a trunk with a built-in backrest pad....At that point, I'll just remove the backrest part....

Cool, so hondaline and paladin are my options so far. Is it typical to be able to mount a rack w/out sissy bar or is this an option I need to look out for?

A guy is selling a cobra rack/sissy bar setup locally. Can you mount these sepperately? Would be nice to save as much $$$ as I can, being a poor college student and all.

I'm starting to realize how stupid my questions are the more I think about this. Well I'm off to work. If anyone can make some suggestions or point out things that do/don't work at the least for me I appreciate it. Even if I'm basically bike accessory retarded at this point your ideas will sink in, don't worry.

Dude, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!!...Chances are, that someone else probably has the same question...

Not sure about the Cobra setup though...Maybe someone else has some experience/knowledge on that one....

I had ordered a set of the hard bags off of e-bay a few years ago for my Silverwing GL500 I really was not impressed with the size or the structure. Personally I thought a good ole rock from a truck would shatter the bags I also thought they were a little small I ended up giving them to my father in law and he mounted them on his rebel. I am looking also to make some camping adventures this summer. I have been looking to go with the Kury Gran tour bag for the back and the RACAPOSHI bags also on e-bay they are pretty large and seem to be solid built bags. I guess most can travel on the bike with a few pair of jeans socks and a few tee’s my wife seems to believe that we need to unbolt the commode and bring it along just in case LOL ( a little funny this past week end we were out and about and I went to put a little something in our saddle bags and saw they were full I went to see what could be taking up so much space I came to find out she had & yes seven ski caps in the bag can you feel my pain LOL) good thing I love her. So you may not have the same space issues I have.

Good luck with your adventure

Be well

I went on one long trip so far and the wife agreed we need more storage space when traveling on the bike so here is the answer I came up with.

You can even order them in the same color as your bike.

Bassdude does not come to the VTX Cafe any longer. Last time he logged on was in Aug., 2018 so he is unlikely to respond to you. I recommend that you create a new thread with your question and perhaps others can offer recommendations.

A lot of folks have jumped ship and gone onto Facebook, unfortunately. A lot of misinformation on there too.

Check out the thread below starting at post # 5. My additions to this thread start at post # 16 and continue on from there. Also I posted several pictures of my installation and several others have pictures in their posts. I put well over 8,000 miles on this setup, fully loaded with no problems with the mounting. If you have any questions for me please feel free to leave them below or you can PM me (see conversations) and I will respond back.
